Airplanes > BillyBob  > Airplanes > Museum of Flight - Seattle, Washington (April 9, 2007)
Some exhibits from Seattle's Museum of Flight, including the Concorde and walk through a former Air Force One.

The Museum of Flight is located south of Seattle, is built near Boeing Field / King County Airport. One of the exhibits is William Boeing's "Red Barn," the Boeing Company's original manufacturing plant. The displays at the Museum of Flight were quite extensive, containing many rare aircraft. In many ways, a smaller version of the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum.

Much like the Smithsonian, I ran out of time and didn't get to view all the exhibits I wanted to see. I got there early when it opened, left when the museum closed it's doors. I guess I'll have to visit it again to see the parts I missed.

The Big Red Barn is one of the first buildings where Boeing first built his airplanes. Inside are exhibits on the early history of the Boeing Company.

BillyBob > The blended winglet sculpture outside the Museum of Flight. The blended winglet is an option that current aircraft operators can purchase to upgrade their existing fleet of Boeing aircraft.

Winglets minimizes wing vortexes and decreases induced drag. Adding winglets to older model aircraft typically decreases the fuel used, which increases the range and fuel efficiency. The blended winglet, seen here, is an upgrade to Boeing's original winglet design first seen on Boeing 747-400 and C-17 aircraft. Instead of an angular transition from the wing to the winglet surface, a more gradual, curving transition.
BillyBob > In the main atrium of the Museum of Flight, you can see a model of Leonardo da Vinci's Il Cigno, which is based on one of his drawings for human powered flight.
