Going south from the Metro station, I followed New Hampshire Avenue NW to the Watergate Hotel. The Watergate is a complex of shops, businesses and hotel rooms. It's located at the intersection of New Hampshire and Virginia Avenue NW, near the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

I got a head start on the National Cherry Blossom Festival a few days before it opened. The weather was overcast and hazy, which made for very dull looking pictures. However, the sights I was able to see and places I visited were still very beautiful and worthwhile. I started at George Washington University, and headed south around the Tidal Basin, and circled East Potomac Park. Potomac Park has unparalleled views of the Potomac as well as Virgina, Maryland, and Southeastern Washington.

BillyBob > When staying in Alexandria, every trip to the District involved taking the Yellow or Blue Metro. This photo shows the historic main terminal at Reagan National Airport.

As you can see, the weather was overcast and hazy. Not the greatest photography weather, but I remained optimistic!

BillyBob > I got off the Metro at Foggy Bottom/GWU. This stop is outside of George Washington University. I didn't get a chance to wander the grounds of the school, but it's definitely on my list of places to see.

BillyBob > Located near the Watergate is the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. There were quite a few plainclothes security guards outside, so I didn't take many pictures of this building.

BillyBob > Outside of the complex is this statue of Benito Juarez, a 5-term president of Mexico, and one of their greatest leaders.

If you celebrate Cinco de Mayo, you should know it was under Juarez's presidency that the Mexican's ousted the French. That and France needed troops to help defend the country against the Prussians and left Maximilian out to dry. You go, Mexico!
